My First Week

September 1,

I have to say my pre-order didn't go well and in no small way it was my fault, what I should have done was ordered the game through digital download, what I did was order it from Best Buy. As a consequence I missed the open beta and didn't get the pre-order reward (travel power in tutorial). All things I'd rather have participated in but such is life.

I read manuals. Really. I do. I know most people would rather chew broken glass then read the manual but I'm not one of them. the manual that came with the game is 8 pages, four of which are devoted to the EULA, the first page is the table of contents and sys. req. After that installation and account creation and lastly trouble shooting.

Nothing about super powers and what they are and how to "enable" them in a game about super powered characters! Worst manual ever? Quite possibly, but at this point I don't put anything past Cryptic, Star Trek online might have even a worse manual.

So enough about the out of box experience, how did I like the gaming? I have to say that while not having any clue how to play my character's powers etc. I am having a good time. But I also have to say its in no small part that defeat has no sting.

Now back to information, I can't even tell you my characters power set. There was a long list of sets to choose from in character creation and since it was day one post beta I knew choosing a support class would be stupid. So I decided on a damage dealer. Now don't get me wrong while I strongly support gun control (yes if it were up to me, I'm coming to take away your guns) in gaming I love them as much as the next guy.

But guns just aren't my idea of super powered do gooders. Plus with out any information I still don't know if ammo is an issue regarding resupply I'm guessing from what I've seen in game that it isn't.

So I picked a power that seemed to be using ESP, for example the power to throw and object (ie. table, chair, car etc.) at a baddie is called telekinesis. My main weapon is called an Ego Blade, and while Ego is a character stat the can be added too, its the endurance stat that improves the Ego Blade. Did the developers of characters and powers have a spat and stopped speaking to each other or what?

The Good:

Wow, my Girl looks great! She does this duel bladed dance in combat, and these heart stopping poses in victory, she makes me proud to be her button masher! And costume creation has literally kept me busy for hours. At level 20 she can have up to three separate costumes, so far I've made three only 2 of which I am truly pleased with.

Now I am not sure I am or should be complaining that I have had to adjust my play style to play into her power set rather then my usual practice of adjusting my character to play in a way I prefer, am I enjoying her bad ass getting all up in the baddies grill before kicking ass and stomping on their names, for now an unequivocal yes. But I suspect as I branch out and create other characters who are easier to play (control) that my bladed bad ass babe will end up on the back burner for good.

Now as for controlling her, well its not all their fault. I just got a new computer and my old ergonomic key board's ps2 connector isn't cutting it with today's usb connectors. as a consequence the cheapo keyboard the system came with is damn hard to touch type the WASD controls plus others. And my character is nothing with out my ability to maneuver quickly. In a pinch seconds truly matter in combat so walking in the wrong direction when the baddies start to run away or go after a team mate can turn a controllable situation into fiasco. But since defeat has little sting usually I at least can live with it.

'till net time,
See you at the respawn point.
